Frequently Asked Questions

Who do you support?

The Tribe Therapeutic Supports provides support to children and young people (aged up to 25) and their families, with a neurological and/or intellectual disability. Sarah has experience working therapeutically with adults; if you are over 25 and feel like The Tribe Therapeutic Supports is a good fit for you get in touch and we can chat about support options tailored to your needs.

Where are sessions held?

The Tribe Therapeutic Supports provides a mobile service - we come to you! Sessions can be held at home, school*, educational facility or in the community. You are able to change location at any time based on what suits you best.

*School visits are dependent on individual schools site rules towards external providers and may involve restricted access/time slots

How many sessions do I need?

The number of sessions you can book in for depends on the goals that you have, your preferences and any sources of funding that you may be accessing. Families can vary in their preferences from weekly supports to monthly or consultative support.

You can choose to book in for a certain number of sessions to achieve a particular goal or develop a specific skill, or set up for 'ongoing' appointments where goals can be periodically reviewed. The intention of Developmental Education is to build the capacity of participants to get them to a point that they are able to reinforce, practice and expand their skills independently and no longer require intensive and ongoing supports.

Do I need a referral?

You do not need a referral to access The Tribe Therapeutic Supports services - you can just get in contact and book straight in, or have a talk about what supports might be the best fit for you and your family.

Can you liase with my child's teacher, or their other supports?

Absolutely! DEs are fantastic at bringing together multi-disciplinary teams and coordinating supports. Working together is definitely a priority.

Liasing with teachers can be so successful to support a child's engagement and achievement at school, but some educational sites have restrictions around outside providers contacting school staff. This can only be organised on a case-by-case basis.

What does it mean to be 'NDIS registered?'

To be able to provide Developmental Education, practitioners must be a registered member of DEAI (professional body for DEs). This ensures that they have the essential qualifications and clearances to provide the supports.

'NDIS registered providers' are different to this - this means that the service (eg. 'The Tribe') has undergone an auditing process that allows them to be registered to provide services to NDIS agency-managed clients. There is no enforced auditing processes for un-registered providers, but it is always important to ensure that your providers are able to provide you with proof of their qualifications and clearances.

The Tribe Therapeutic Supports is NOT an NDIS registered provider. We can provide services only to NDIS self and plan managed clients, or privately paying clients.

How much does a session cost?

Fees for sessions can be claimed under 'Capacity Building - Improved Daily Living' stream within your/your child's NDIS plan.
